Organic Farms® Composting
NatureTech™
Fertilizers are based on aerobically composted poultry litter. The frequent
turning of the material introduces oxygen and maintains an excellent
environment for microorganisms to decompose the raw organic matter into
rich stabilized humus. This process ensures that any harmful pathogens
are destroyed and that plant nutrients are ready for introduction into
the soil and root systems.
- Organic Farms® composting process assures
that our products are free of viable pathogens and weed seeds.
- Organic Farms® 6 month composting is continuously
monitored to maintain optimum conditions to create a stable and consistent
product.
Composting and Pelletizing Process
- Organic Farms® composting, blending and
pelletizing facilities adhere to stringent guidelines for composting
and manufacturing natural and organic fertilizers.
- Organic Farms® composting process assures that
e-coli and salmonella have been destroyed. They are both heat sensitive.
The composting operation is regulated by the Calif. Integrated Waste
Board, which specifies that the product must maintain a minimum temperature
of 131 degrees for 15 consecutive days to complete the pathogen reduction
process. Temperatures are recorded daily and a log is kept, documenting
the temperatures.
- Merced County monitors the operation for CIWB
to assure that the proper procedures are met. Although Foster Farms®
has effectively killed any living organisms, we cannot guarantee that
the product if “free” of anything since any product can
be contaminated after it leaves our facility. In addition to the composting
process, the compost is then pelletized at a temperature of 175 degrees
under pressure for approximately 30 seconds. The pellet retains the
heat for 3 minutes after pelletizing. Our base material for use as
fertilizer is strictly managed to assure that it is a safe product.
